Our dogs are at limited stud to approved bitches
It is expected that bitches will be cared for and puppies reared as per the Whippet Club code of ethics.
We expect bitches visiting our stud dogs to have had their hearts checked by a canine cardiologist to a satisfactory conclusion.

Sadly Whattie had to be put to sleep on 22nd April 2023 as his quality of life had gone, he was 14 years and three months of age.

C.O.I. on 8 generations 4.1%
On 22-12-09 Whattie was heart tested by Mike Martin (specialist canine cardiologist) he had an Echocardiography and Doppler test and was found to be normal with no signs of heart disease, a grade one murmur was caused by an innocent flow murmur.
On 25-10-10 Whattie was blood tested by Roger Batt BVSc MSc PhD FRCVS DipECVIM and readings were normal including Thyroglobulin antibody negative, hypoyhyroidism very unlikely.
On 21-10-10 Whattie was eye tested by John Goodyear CertVOphthal and no signs of eye problems were evident.
On 18/04/12 Whattie was eye tested by Ian Mason, a small cataract was found in the left eye which is conducant with an injury to that eye on the 26th January 2012.
On 17-04-13 Whatie was eye tested by Ian Mason, the small cataract had not changed, no other eye problems were evident.
On 16-04-14 Whatie was eye tested by Ian Mason, the small cataract had not changed, no other eye problems were evident. On 22-04-15 Whatie was eye tested by Ian Mason, the small cataract had not changed, no other eye problems were evident. Mr Mason sugested that testing bienuually would be sufficient in future.
Whattie had been examined by a canine cardiologist annually since 2009 and had continued to have a grade one murmur as was expected with an innicent flow murmur.
On 17-11-16 Whattie went to the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals and saw Professor Virginia Luis Fuentes MA, VetMB, PhD, CertVR, DVC, DipACVIM, DipECVIM, MRCVS (probably the person in this country that has examined more whippets hearts than any other as she is regularly involved in whippet club heart testing in America). Professor Fuentes found that 'Whattie has a soft intermittent murmur of mitral regurgitation and his echo shows early degenerative changes of his mitral valve with mild, variable mitral regurgitation. At present there are no signs of chamber enlargement or hemodynamic consequences of his mild regurgitation and progression of MVD in whippets is often quite slow.' Professor Fuentes saw no reason to withdraw Whattie from Stud as the status of other whippets of his age are unknown unless they become ill, which he isn't, as routine testing in the UK is not common. She felt that his heart was far better than the majority of whippets of his age that she had examined overseas. Age 13 Whattie is still galloping round the firelds and showing no signs of heart issues.
Whattie has annually had full bloods done and they show no irregularities, including normal results for liver and kidney function and thyroid levels.
Ian Mason examined Whattie's eyes the summer of him being 12 and said that they were still fine, the cataract had changed little.

From Whattie's first litter American Champion Bluestreak Blonde Moment bred by Cathie Brown, owned by Cathie, Fristen Fredericks and Karen Lee
